Sei Takanashi (小鳥遊 聖 / セイ, Takanashi Sei / Sei) is the main female protagonist of The Saint's Magic Power Is Omnipotent.
About[]
Sei is a Japanese office lady in her twenties who was summoned to Salutania by the Saint Summoning Ritual together with Aira Misono. Her saintly powers include a fifty percent boost in the efficacy of anything she makes using her power. Sei was not immediately recognised as the Saint at the conclusion of the summoning ritual due to her appearance. Offended by the affront, Sei does not reveal that she is actually the Saint (she confirms this in the LN when reading her own status board). During her early months working at the Medicinal Flora Research Institute, her sainthood is nearly found out multiple times due to some accidental scenes with her research. Sei is only publicly acknowledged as the Saint after many people have seen and attested to her abilities. She likes to cook and make cosmetics in her spare time. She owns a cosmetic business in the capital.[1]
Appearance[]
Originally, she wore her hair up in a messy ponytail, donned glasses, and had permanent dark circles under her eyes (because she had been overworked). She stopped wearing her glasses after the side effects of some self-made facial cosmetics she started using made her eyesight better. The dark circles under her eyes faded away a couple months after her summoning (thanks to her getting enough sleep during that time), resulting in her natural beauty shining through. In Salutania, Sei often wears her hair down. Her daily dress is a red gown decorated with patterns made out of gold swirls.

She particularly dislikes the modesty values of Salutania; since she's forced to cover more skin than she's used to (and finds it uncomfortable because it causes her to overheat).
Personality[]
Sei is more emotionally mature than many characters. While she can be shocked or angry, she is still able to see the positive sides to her situation. She can act pragmatically even while remaining disgruntled. She also displays a sense of joyous wonder toward fantasy staples like magic and potions despite being summoned to another world. She also understands her situation wisely and tries to act calmly. She often internally shrieks whenever she thinks of her beloved Albert.
Summary[]
The moment Sei, an office lady in her twenties, got home from working overtime at the office, she was abruptly summoned to another world. Although Sei was summoned to be the Saint, the crown prince of the kingdom, Kyle Salutania, exited the room with Aira Misono only, the cute high school girl who had been summoned with Sei, leaving Sei behind.
With no notion of how to return to Japan, Sei soon decided to begin working at the palace's Medicinal Flora Research Institute.
Although she realised that she was indeed the Saint, Sei concealed the truth in order to live her life as an ordinary person. However, Sei displayed tremendous magical ability, astounding everyone with her skills in potion-making, cooking, and concocting cosmetics.
Starting from the day she used one of her high-grade HP potions to save Knight Commander Albert Hawke's life, Sei performed one miracle after another. In time, rumours in the palace began to suggest that Sei Takanashi was the true Saint.
Although she was summoned by the Royal Magi Assembly to be the Saint, Sei managed to avoid being outed for some time. As part of her first formal reward from the King of Salutana for her charitable deeds to the kingdom, Sei takes up intensive magical training under the guidance of Grand Magus Yuri Drewes, and her days were busy yet fulfilling.
Perhaps as a result of her training, or perhaps because of the healing miracle Sei brings about at the hospital with her gold-coloured magic, suspicions that she was the Saint were strengthened. However, Crown Prince Kyle denounced those suspicious, stubbornly upholding Aira as the true Saint.
Sei's sainthood is proven once and for all on a monster-slaying expedition. When Knight Commander Albert Hawke was in danger, Sei called on her golden magic to instantly cleanse the black miasma producing the monsters.
As a result, Crown Prince Kyle was confined to his quarters for accusing Sei of being a false Saint. Furthermore, Aira, who had been isolated by Kyle once she arrived in the kingdom, was finally able to make friends at the academy, and with Sei. She, too, now strives for a peaceful life.
Abilities[]
Sei has an affinity for Holy Magic. She displayed tremendous magical ability, astounding everyone with her skills in potion-making, cooking, and concocting cosmetics.
Gold-coloured magic (or 'Saint's Conjuring')[]
No one really knows what the Saint's Conjuring can do, except to slay monsters, as most past records of past Saints' exploits were destroyed.
Sei's gold-coloured magic is very strong, to the point she is easily able to cleanse whole swamps of black miasma which produce the monsters at higher than normal rates.
The golden hue of her magic is also visible on her "Heal" spells. When Grand Magus Yuri Drewes compares his to hers, Sei's heal spell shows some golden sparkles while Yuri's doesn't[2].
Yuri later on suggests that Sei's gold-coloured magic may be what's known in the limited historical records as "the Saint's Conjuring."
Sei's first use of the Saint's Conjuring is in the garden of the Medicinal Flora Research Institute. This incident turned out to be an accidental cast, which Sei is unable to replicate for a while. Sei eventually figures out how to cast the Saint's Conjuring by will in Klausner's Domain, where she also learns that some herbs can only grow in soil that has been "blessed" by the Saint's gold-coloured magic.
In the tome written by the Great Alchemist, it is said that the saint's magic comes from the power of love. An important example of that is shown when Sei uses her magic to save Albert Hawke as she has strong feelings for him.
Enchantment[]
Sei is able to enchant foci with Holy Magic affiliated enchantments. Her first successful enchantment is a foci imbued with the ability to mitigate damage from all elemental affinities; this foci was later embedded in a pendant necklace that Sei gifted to Albert. She was able to produce numerous complex enchantments exceeding the capabilities of the average mage at the Royal Magi Assembly, including a legendary class/national treasure level enchanted foci capable of negating all status ailments and increase magical and physical defence.

Healing[]
Sei learned healing magic after learning from some of the knights from the Third Order that there were injuries that potions could not cure/reverse. During her visit to the hospital after the joint mission of the Third and Second Order, Sei was able to heal several soldiers using healing spells she had learned from a book Siegfried Salutania recommended to her. It was during this visit that she noticed one of the knights of the Third Order, Wolff, was missing a hand; she was successfully able to regrow the entire missing limb using 'Heal'. She performed the same healing miracle for all the occupants in the same room as Wolff, before visiting all the remaining rooms to heal the rest of the soldiers. She successfully uses a high level "Area Heal" spell by channeling her power throughout her whole body, healing multiple soldiers in one room at one go.[3]

Potions[]
Sei can create high-grade HP potions which can be more effective than typical high-grade HP potions, to the point she was able to save Knight Commander Albert Hawke's life. In Morgenhaven, her high-grade HP potions also helped a member of Captain Ceyran's crew avoid death, as well as save him from becoming a cripple for life.[1][3]
Potions made by Sei have a 50% increase in efficacy due to her being the saint.
Cooking[]
Sei likes to cook for herself because the meals served in Salutania when she first arrived weren't quite as good as the food she's used to in Japan.
When Sei made the lunch during one of the knight expeditions, the knights experienced having their physical abilities temporarily boosted.
Just like potions, the benefits brought about by consuming her cooking has a 50% increase in efficacy because she's the saint.

She was the previous lady of the Hawke Borderlands. And had been the older sister of the previous king (before Siegfried Salutania). She had been so beautiful that they’d called her “the Frozen Rose.” [5]
Unnamed father[]
During Sei and Albert's first date, Sei mentioned that she no romantic experience. The only guy she had ever hung out with alone was her father. [6]
Albert Hawke[]
Ever since Sei healed Albert Hawke with a high-level potion she made, they have been growing closer to each other. Albert is seen as Sei's main love interest and becomes her fiancé later on in the story. The two became so close that Albert vows to protect her. At the end of their first date, Albert gifts her an expensive hair ornament accented by beautiful blue-grey coloured gems that match the colour of his eyes. Apparently it is tradition in Salutania to gift one's love-interest with a present that matches the giver's eye colour.

Their first date
It is revealed that Albert initially had no memory of who had saved him. When he asks Johan to meet with the person in order to thank them, he is surprised when he meets Sei. Albert realizes that he had fallen for her at first sight because of her natural beauty and caring personality.[5]
Sei often gets nervous around him, though she's accepted Albert as her escort for formal dinners. Liz is one of the first persons to mention to Sei that she seems to be "in love" and notices how much happier she is after hanging out with Albert. He often flirts with Sei, especially when they're alone, and Sei frequently blushes during those incidents—such as when Albert kissed her hand in appreciation of the enchanted necklace she gifts him, or when he touches her face (which is how he soon realises that Sei feels the same way about him). Albert knows that Sei doesn't have that much romantic experience and is unused to traditional manners of courtship, so he tries to follow her pace. He also tries to become closer whenever he has a chance.[5]
Sei learns she can cast the Saint's Conjuring on command only when she thinks of Albert (at the time she didn't know it was based on love). During a monster expedition in Hawke's domain, she falls into a hole along one of the mine's tunnels, and becomes trapped because of the steep slope. While waiting for help in the dark at the bottom of the slope, she began forcing herself to think of the tasks she had to do when she gets back to the capital—like, making potions for the First Order Knights—in order to avoid thinking dark thoughts. It was during this reminiscing that Sei recalls always feeling super antsy around the First Order Knights that idolized her and treated her like royalty, and her frequently having the urge to run away from all of them. It is also during on this occasion that Sei reliazes that though Albert occasionally also made her feel like she wanted to run away when he teases her, that those feelings didn't last long because she didn't really want to avoid him. At this point she reliazes that she not only liked him but had fallen in love with him. In the anime she acknowledges about her feelings about Albert while reminiscing in Albert's family villa, about what Liz had said about her marriage. Liz had told her previously that she had to start thinking about marriage soon.[7]
It is at the close of the subjugation expedition to the Hawke borderlands territory arc that Sei begins to worry that she would no longer be able to see Albert because of the decline in sightings of monster swamps. She had begun to notice the most of time they had spent together was because of these expeditions. It is at the point in the story that Sei realizes she's the only palace employee who didn't know how to ride horses, and Albert offers to teach her as well as go horseback riding together with her when she's mastered it; The offer leaves Sei relieved because it meant she had more chances to see him in the future.[5]
Albert's confession and proposal
It is has been known throughout society that Albert was on the top of the list of being Sei's future fiancé. Numerous people still tried to become her partner. After attending a play with Yuri, a slight misunderstanding on the relationship between Yuri Drewes and Sei (caused by some rumours) instigates Albert to move forward in his relationship with Sei.[5]
When Albert decided to finally make a move, he invites Sei to go on a date with him at a park in the capital where he had reserved a special spot just for them. Albert's clothes that day were significantly different from those he wore to the royal capital; they were decorated with gorgeous embroidery to an extent which made his noble status apparent.[5]
The original grove had been transformed into a frozen wonderland, glistening in the light of the setting sun. He had recreated the story he heard from her about Japan's annual Christmas lights. She had told him about how they decorated trees with ornamental lights during the winter months in her past world. Albert used his ice magic and enchanted foci to recreate the scene. When Sei turned to Albert to thank him for what he did, he grabbed her right hand. When Sei looked up to ask why he had taken hold of her hand, she was met with a serious expression. Wrapping her right hand with both of his hands, Commander Hawke said, “Sei, I love you. Will you marry me?” [5]
When Sei accepts his proposal, he pulls her into his arms and hugs her close. He explains that he had wanted to take it slower since she was not accustomed to traditional courting; However, due to the numerous proposals directed at her, he had to confess his feelings before it was too late.[5]
Unnamed niece/nephew-in-law[]
This child is the nice/nephew to her. However, child's name is currently unmentioned. The parents are Josef Hawke and his wife.
Jude[]
Jude is the first person from the Magical Floral Research Institute whom Sei meets on one of her walks around the palace grounds, at the beginning of the story. He is the person who introduces Sei to the Institute, and is later appointed by Johan Valdec to orientate Sei and teach her how to make potions.
Johan Valdec[]
Sei's boss at the Magical Floral Research Institute. He is one of the few people who knows Sei quite well, and often looks out for her in an almost fatherly way—including taking it upon himself to refuse requests from the palace which may put her in danger, and/or rewards he knows she would be uncomfortable accepting, on her behalf. He watches over Albert and Sei's blooming relationship as a good friend.
Erhart Hawke[]
Initially nicknamed "Lord Smarty-Glasses" by Sei , he is the person who conducts the informal test of Sei's magic capabilities and MP capacity at the Royal Magi Assembly by getting Sei to enchant a series of foci with various enchantments of differing abilities and complexities. Sei only learns his name (and that he is Albert's brother) when she's summoned to the Assembly to be appraised by Yuri Drewes. He is somewhat Sei's informal 'guardian' (against the possible dangers of Yuri's eccentricities) at the Royal Magi Assembly.[8]
Yuri Drewes[]
Appointed by the King to be Sei's magic instructor, after Sei requests for a teacher to formally teach her about magic. He is also Sei's self-assigned observer, as he is very interested in studying Sei's magic and how the Saint's Conjuring works.
Etymology[]
- The name Sei means "holy" (聖).
- Sei's first name is in the word "seijo" which means "saint"(聖女).
- Sei's surname Takanashi means "little bird, small bird" (小鳥) (taka) and "play" (遊) (nashi).
Trivia[]
- It is said that Sei has more magic than Yuri Drewes[2].
- Sei is exasperated by Salutania's antiquated modesty values; finding it ridiculous that she has to keep her calfs covered up even on hot days.
- When the first season had aired it was exactly two years ago from the second season. In episode 12 of the second season it states in the anime that it was two years ago when Sei and Albert had first met.
- In the 12th episode of season 2, when Albert proposes to Sei it was around the winter time, just before Christmas. The air date of this episode was actually right before Christmas.
